On Wednesday 23 March 2022 Prof. Jan van Doleweerd will give a (free) lecture about ‘The Bible as a Conversation Partner in Education’.
In religious education, the Bible plays an important role as a source of authority for Christians. Christian teachers try to make the connection between the Bible and life today. However, the distance between the Bible and life today is great in terms of time, language, culture and context. Translating the contents of the Bible to the world of today's students, in whatever context, is a challenge for every Christian teacher. Do you want answers to the following questions: How do you use the Bible in teaching? How does the Bible get its own voice in education? How do you prevent the Bible from saying what you think? How can the Bible be a good conversation partner in your teaching? Then follow this mini lecture as part of the religious education strand of the MLI-CE.
Prof van Doleweerd says about his experiences: “Teaching at the MCE is always a highlight for me. Students bring experience and insights from various contexts. Our guest lecturers also contribute to this. In an atmosphere of discovering together what matters, this means working in a challenging and innovative way and looking for opportunities to deepen your and my practice. Together we contribute to the Christian witness in this world and we encourage each other in teaching a new generation to put their trust in God (Psalm 78).”
